2-Chlorophenyl cyclopentyl ketone (also named as (2-Chlorophenyl)-cyclopentylmethanone) is used as a reagent in the preparation of bicyclic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is also employed as a pharmacerutical intermediate in the preparation of Esketamine,  a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist for the treatment of depression.
The CYP2B6*6 allele significantly alters the N-demethylation of ketamine enantiomers in vitro. [1]
