2,4-Dichloropyrimidine (also known as  2,4-DCP)is typically used in the synthesis of medicinally important 4-aryl-5-pyrimidinylimidazoles. For example, it is the starting material for the prepartion of Dapivirine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor to prevent infection by human immunodeficiency virus in women.
An Efficient Route to 4-Aryl-5-pyrimidinylimidazoles via Sequential Functionalization of 2,4-Dichloropyrimidine. [1]
A Highly Regioselective Amination of 6-Aryl-2,4-dichloropyrimidine. [2]
Mechanisms of inhibition of HIV replication by nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. [3]
